Please Ignore Robert

In a prior blog, several months old, I advised readers here to please ignore the off-topic posters.  One of the most famous here is a poster named Robert.  I would like to tell you about his behavior.

If you want a view of Robert, just do a search using Google of "Robert  Location: TX"  site:www.townhall.com.  If you go to the links there (about 21 in the last 10 days or so) Robert posts nearly the same or similar comments in response to all others' columns.

You will note that Robert's name is not underlined in his posts (mine are), which means that he does not have his own blog on Townhall.  In other words, Robert is a person who can post one or more times per day on other peoples' posts, and post off topic, but does not have the intestinal fortitude to post his own blog, because he is afraid people will not pay attention to it.  More fun to carpet bomb other peoples' blogs.  If Robert had the courage of his convictions, he would blog on them on Townhall.  I am sure that the people here could then give him the attention he wants.

Please wake up, Townhall readers.  I like the articles here and most of you post great comments.  But, by taking off against Robert, you are fulfilling his dream of being noticed and pulling off topic.  He is a sad little person (mentally) who is in need of psychological counseling.  His hatred of all things conservative is evident, as he has yet to target those wonderful people of moral clarity, the Clintons, or any other liberal person.  Ssggest you read right by his posts.  If you don't respond, maybe he will go back to the dailyKos or other web sites where the BDS (Bush derangement syndrome) is so welcome.

A Letter from Howard Dean and My Response

Today I received the following letter from Howard Dean, the Democrat(ic) Party Chairman.  My response follows his letter.

The Democratic Party

Dear Friend,

Watch our first national television ad of the general electionJohn McCain believes we're better off economically today than we were eight years ago.

The American people know that's not true -- they're feeling the effects of high gas prices, lost jobs, and a housing crisis. Voters continually rank the economy as their biggest concern.

So this week we're planning to release our first national television ad of the presidential race to show the American people just how wrong John McCain is on the economy. We're also strengthening our local organizing efforts to make sure the American people really know how little John McCain understands the economy.

We need $500,000 to help pay for ads like the one we plan to air this week, fund organizers in your state and build a national infrastructure to help Hillary or Barack win the White House.

Can you help us raise $500,000? If you can, then millions of Americans will get to see and hear the real John McCain in his own words -- and we'll be building for victory in November.

Click here to see our first ad of the presidential race:

John McCain is on the record as saying the economy is something he really doesn't understand as well as he should. It shows.

Unemployment is up. Gas and food prices are up. Inflation is on the rise. The housing market is in a slump. The pundits are saying we're in the worst economic mess in decades. But John McCain keeps defending his friend George Bush, saying everything is just fine.

Providing tax cuts for the wealthy, allowing oil and gas companies to make huge windfall profits and turning a blind eye to the problems in the home lending market -- these are John McCain's solutions. American families can't afford four more years of failed Bush economic policies.

Your support today allows us to get this spot on the air across the country. We want to do this right -- please take a moment now to watch the ad and then make a contribution:

http://www.democrats.org/support

John McCain and the Republican Party hope we'll forget about the mismanagement of the last eight years. They're working hard to distract Americans from getting to know the real John McCain, and the Republican spin machine is working overtime.

While John McCain is out trying to reintroduce himself to the American people, we want to make sure voters have all the facts -- and have the chance to know the real John McCain.

Your support to help us raise $500,000 means we can start distributing the ad on national television this week, while putting additional resources into our 50-state strategy.

We'll make sure Americans hear John McCain in his own words. And the more we raise, the more voters we can reach with this and other spots.

Thanks for your support,

Howard Dean

Dear Howard Dean:
You Democrats taking the House and Senate was supposed to make things better; remember the 2006 campaign?  But they have instead gotten worse.  Both unemployment and gasoline prices have gone up since you got your majority, and you guys have even pulled stunts like blocking Republican appointment to the FEC (blocking any funds for John McCain) and then suing the FEC for not making John  McCain accept matching funds, blocking a fair vote on a Free Trade with Colombia after you have had the President go back to negotiate at least twice, failing to get the fence built to stop ILLEGAL entry to the US (that is NOT immigration; look it up in the dictionary.  It is called criminal trespass in our law books.)

We have seen earmarks go out the roof.  You are not working on a budget; your Speaker wastes time behaving like she is a Prime Minister but cannot bother to get a budget through Congress.  No action has been started on Social Security or Medicare, both being problems that Democrats campaigned upon.  You have tried to force withdrawal from Iraq multiple times despite failing to campaign on that promise in 2006.  Your Judiciary Chairman has been blocking hearings on Judges since he became Chairman with the intent of holding slots open for a Democrat President.  With all of these actions you Democrats have demonstrated you are part of the problem, not the solution.  Tell John McCain to look for my donation.  The Democrat donkey will appear in Homer Simpson's dictionary next to "miserable failure".

Sincerely,

TheHistorian

Voinovich -- It is Time for You to Go

Today I received the following information in an email newsletter from Senator Voinovich:

As most Ohioans know, Sen. Voinovich has long championed fiscal responsibility, and has become known as the Senate’s top “debt hawk.” However, helping people understand just how dire our fiscal situation is can be difficult. The senator wants Ohioans to know the truth about where we are as a nation – a truly inconvenient truth that starts with the national debt. Each month – at the beginning of this electronic newsletter – we will be sharing with you a “debt calculator” that gives an estimate of the current U.S. debt as well as your share of that debt. Why is this important? Because the government is wasting your tax dollars paying off the interest on the debt to creditors – including the Chinese government – instead of focusing on our priorities. How much are we paying? Last year, nearly 13 percent of our budget went to paying off the interest on our debt, and we’re not even touching the principle. That’s nearly $350 billion of your tax money. If paying the debt was a government program, it would be the fourth largest, right behind Social Security, Medicare and national defense. [source: OMB] The time to act is now, before it’s too late.

Currently, the national debt is estimated at: $9,411,108,874,962.61

Your share of that debt: $30,983.14

Thank you for this information, Senator Voinovich.  I agree with all of the information, but must point out some facts which YOU may find inconvenient.
  1. In your next item, you say that you are Fighting for First Responders .  Why is this a Federal mandate.  You politicians stand at the trough and split up funding which is NOT a Federal responsibility.  Please explain to your constituents how this is a FEDERAL priority.  I believe you cannot.
  2.  Senator Voinovich also reports that he  is Meeting With Ohio's Farmers.  Unfortunately, the issue that he discussed, the transfer of National Pollution Discharge Elimination System authority from the OHIO EPA to the OHIO DNR is NOT an issue for a US Senator.  Senator Voinovich should instead concern himself with issues that are ongoing in the Senate in Washington, DC.
Some of the things I would suggest he do are as follows:
Senator Voinovich is largely responsible for the largest tax increase in history which will occur in 2010.  Not only will income taxes go back up to 2000 levels, but the Death Tax (called the Inheritance Tax) will go back up to its 2000 levels of 40% after having been 0 the year before and not being indexed for inflation for 10 years.  This "deficit hawk" is very responsible for this, and refused to go above $350 billion for the tax breaks.  Unfortunately for Senator Voinovich, the tax cuts actually INCREASED the percent of GDP which the Federal Government is collecting in taxes over the average from 1965 to 1995.  Source:  Heritage Foundation chart.  Now the "deficit hawk" is telling everybody that taxes MUST increase Source:  AP Article.  Sending more money to Washington, DC will help EVERY Ohio resident, won't it, Senator Voinovich?  Because that is what you are REALLY proposing to do.
When we sent Senator Voinovich to Washington, DC, the Federal expenditures were  $1.3 trillion dollars.  Seventeen years later (2008), the total Federal outlay is $2.9 trillion.  That is a growth of 4.7 percent compounded annually. See the Congressional Budget Office summary.   If I had grown my family budget like that, I would be going in the hole hugely also; you would be spending about 2.5 times what you spent in 1991.  Voinovich has FAILED to take on his opponents and friends in this spending.  The "deficit hawk" forgot the expenditure part of the equation.
Senator Voinovich makes the point that interest is a large component of the budget.  However, according to the GPO link above, interest as a percent of outlays has SHRUNK since Senator Voinovich went to Washington.  Why, now, is he raising the alarm?
Finally, Senator Voinovich totally sidesteps the issue of Social Security and Medicare indebtedness.  According to the 2008 calculations released a few days ago, the deficit for 2008 in the Federal budget is estimated to be #9.8 trillion.  However, Social Security is much worse:  The  Social Security Administration  has estimated that this deficit is $17.1 trillion, which is twice what the Federal deficit is.
Senator Voinovich is a typical rich Republican who has lost touch with Ohio's people and problems.  The Republicans need to give those like me a choice that is better than he by 2010, or he will lose his seat just like Mike DeWine lost his.
